Research on English learners

Arizona stakeholders want to better understand the relationship between kindergarten English learner (EL) designations, EL services, and K–3 literacy attainment as it aligns with statewide “Move on When Reading” legislation. Using state- and district- level data, REL West research projects will examine early literacy and language attainment of students who enter kindergarten with different EL classifications, how their language and literacy outcomes vary by types of EL services they receive, and how these outcomes relate to school characteristics.
