West Region public school state snapshots

These infographics synthesize key state-level education data for Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah, including:

  • Number of public schools, teachers, and students
  • Race/ethnicity breakdown of student population
  • Percentage of 18- to 24-year-olds enrolled in degree-granting postsecondary institutions
  • Percentage of students:
    • Achieving proficiency in math and reading
    • Eligible for free or reduced-price lunch
    • Living in rural areas

You can use these state profiles to access specific details about a particular state or to build your overall understanding of education in the West Region. For example, the state profiles convey that, on average, 50 percent of students in the REL West Region are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. You can also see that high school graduation rates range from 71 percent (in Nevada) to 85 percent (in Utah).

We hope that these data snapshots can spark conversation about student demographics, enrollment information, and achievement results in each state and prompt discussions on what other information is needed to better support states and their districts, schools, and students.
