Defining Your Approach to Implementing ESSA Evidence Standards: A Self-Guided Video Workshop
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) intensified the call for states and districts to use evidence and data as part of a larger continuous improvement process. This interactive 8-minute video is designed to support state education agency (SEA) staff and their partners in defining their context-specific approach to assisting local education agencies (LEAs) as they identify and implement evidence-based practices. In this self-guided video workshop, SEAs and their educational partners learn about a continuum of approaches from least to most prescriptive that a SEA or other technical assistance provider might take in supporting LEAs. Brief facilitator guidance includes instructions and tips for leading discussions while watching the video.
This video draws from REL West's Evidence-Based Improvement Guide, which offers an improvement framework to help SEA and LEA staff strengthen their continuous improvement processes and supports to implement ESSA evidence provisions. The tools in this guide can help to inform next steps for SEA and LEA staff. For example, there are tools for mapping current improvement processes; determining an approach and supports for selecting evidence-based strategies; and assessing the body of research of interventions, engaging their fit with the local context.
