Time: 3:00–4:00

Location: Virtual

Description: Earning college credits while in high school has shown promise as a way to increase college access. However, little is known about the effects of such programs for students who have faced economic disadvantages. This webinar will discuss findings from the report "The effects of accelerated college credit programs on educational attainment in Rhode Island," the first statewide longitudinal study of such programs in the state. A representative from the Rhode Island Department of Education will discuss how the agency has used the findings to inform state policy governing these programs, initiatives to increase equitable access to the programs, and requests to the state legislature.

Participants who attend the webinar will:

Understand the relationship between students’ participation in accelerated college credit programs and their educational attainment Learn how states can use this information to inform policies for such programs Learn about what the experience of implementing and participating in accelerated college credit programs is like from the perspective of school administrators and students Partnership or Research Alliance: Rhode Island Pipelines to College and Career Research Partnership

Audience: This webinar is intended for state and local education agencies considering or currently implementing accelerated college credit programs, school-level administrators responsible for college readiness programs, and educators in the REL Northeast & Islands region and nationally.

Speakers: Dr. Jessica Bailey, REL Northeast & Islands, Dr. Katherine Shields, REL Northeast & Islands, Spencer Sherman, Rhode Island Department of Education
