Marbella Alfonzo

State: Nevada
Board Secretary, Nevada Association of School Administrators; Principal, Clark County School District
Dr. Marbella Alfonzo is the principal of Garside Junior High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she serves more than 1,200 students. She has worked as a teacher, college instructor, assistant professor, dean of students, and assistant principal. Dr. Alfonzo also serves as the Board Secretary of the Nevada Association of School Administrators.

John Arthur

State: Utah
National Board-Certified Teacher, Salt Lake City School District; 2021 Utah Teacher of the Year
John Arthur is in his sixth year of teaching at Meadowlark Elementary School in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the 2021 Utah Teacher of the Year and 2021 National Teacher of the Year finalist. He is a National Board-certified teacher and serves on Utah’s State School Board Advisory Committee for equity of educational services for students. In addition, he teaches at Westminster College’s Master of Arts in Teaching program.

France Barral

France Barral is an Education Commissioner with the Utah Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Through programmatic and resource supports to local PTAs, Ms. Barral helps ensure collaboration and engagement of families and communities in Utah schools. She is a Certified Public Accountant and has extensive experience in leadership, strategy, finance, accounting.

Dr. Daryl F. Camp

State: California
President, California African-American Superintendents and Administrators; Superintendent, San Lorenzo Unified School District
Dr. Daryl F. Camp is the Superintendent of San Lorenzo Unified School District in Alameda, California, where he leads more than 518 teachers and serves nearly 10,000 students. Previously, he was the Superintendent of Riverbank Unified School District in California. Dr. Camp teaches the Setting Direction module in the California School Boards Association’s (CBSA) Masters in Governance program. He is also a governance consultant with CSBA’s Governance Consulting Services, developing customized board development workshops for governance teams.

Jhone M. Ebert

State: Nevada
State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Nevada Department of Education
Jhone M. Ebert is the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Nevada Department of Education. Previously, she served as the senior deputy commissioner for P-20 education policy at the New York State Education Department,where she was the senior education policy advisor to the state commissioner and Board of Regents. Ms. Ebert also served in the Clark County School District (CCSD) in Nevada as chief innovation and productivity officer and chief technology officer. She began her education career as a mathematics teacher in Las Vegas.

Rebecca Garcia

State: Nevada
President, Nevada Parent Teacher Association
Rebecca Garcia is the President of the Nevada Parent Teacher Association (PTA). As a volunteer leader of the Nevada PTA, she helps empower families and communities to advocate for all Nevada children. She also serves as a Community Impact Director for Dress for Success Southern Nevada.

Dr. Joseph Guzman*

Associate Superintendent of Accountability, Research, and Evaluation
Dr. Joseph Guzman is the Associate Superintendent of Accountability, Research, and Evaluation for the Arizona Department of Education. He is a member of the Small Business Development Board for the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Coconino County Industrial Development Board in Arizona. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University and Northern Arizona University.

Dr. Corey Greenlaw

President of the Executive Board, California Educational Research Association; Executive Director of Accountability, Compliance, and Grants, Office of the Fresno County Superintendents of Schools
Dr. Corey Greenlaw is the Executive Director of Accountability, Compliance, and Grants, at the Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. He has worked in PK–12 education as a school, district, and county administrator. Most of his work has been around data and assessments, particularly large-scale assessments and the use of assessment results in the formative process. He is a member of the California Technical Assistance Group for State Level Assessments.

Dr. Lupita Hightower

State: Arizona
Past President, Arizona School Administrators; Board Member, Arizona Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents; Superintendent, Tolleson Elementary School District
Dr. Lupita Hightower is the Superintendent of Tolleson Elementary School District in Tolleson, Arizona, where she oversees four schools serving nearly 3,000 students. In addition, during her career, Dr. Hightower has served as a teacher, mentor/coach, assistant principal, principal, district-level director, and assistant superintendent. Dr. Hightower is also President of Arizona School Administrators and a Board member of the Arizona Association of LatinoAdministrators and Superintendents.

Jacob Moore

State: Arizona
Assistant Vice-President Tribal Relations, Arizona State University
Jacob Moore is the Assistant Vice-President for Tribal Relations at Arizona State University. In this role, he is responsible for the intergovernmental affairs between the university and tribal nations and communities. Previously,Mr. Moore was managing partner for Generation Seven Strategic Partners, LLC, and also worked as an Economic Development Analyst and Special Assistant on Congressional and Legislative Affairs for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian community.

Mary Nicely*

State: California
Chief Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction, California Department of Education
Mary Nicely is the Chief Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction at the California Department of Education (CDE). She is responsible for the overall operations and administration of recruitment and retention of teachers of color, community schools, educator housing, and public/private partnerships with philanthropy and industry.

Richard Nye

State: Utah
Superintendent, Granite School District
Richard Nye is the Superintendent of the Granite School District in Salt Lake City, Utah, serving more than 60,000 students. Prior to his appointment at the Granite School District, he was the Deputy Superintendent of Student Success for the Utah State Board of Education and served as the Superintendent of Ogden School District.

Jan Ogino

State: Arizona
National Board-Certified Teacher, Peoria School District; Teacher Leader, Arizona K12 Center
Jan Ogino is a teacher at Heritage Elementary School in the Peoria Unified School District in Arizona. She also serves as a Teacher Leader for the Arizona K12 Center. She is a National Board Certified teacher and is an active member of the Arizona Education Association.

Felicia Ortiz

State: Nevada
Member, Nevada Latin Chamber of Commerce; President, Nevada Board of Education
Felicia Ortiz is an elected member of the Nevada State Board of Education. She is a local businesswoman and has been a community leader and strong supporter of education and nonprofit organizations in Nevada. She currently serves as past-president of the Las Vegas Chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals for America, is a member of the Latino Network of Southern Nevada, and the Latin Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Andrea Rorrer

State: Utah
Director, Utah Education Policy Center, University of Utah
Dr. Andrea Rorrer is a Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and PolicyStudies, Director of the Utah Education Policy Center, and Associate Dean for Research in the College of Education at the University of Utah. She conducts research and provides technical assistance and support to local schools and school districts, the state board of education, the legislature, and community-based organizations.

Dr. Ed Sullivan

State: California
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Institutional Research and Analyses, Office of the Chancellor, California State University
Dr. Ed Sullivan is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Research and Analysis at the California State University (CSU) Office of the Chancellor, where he provides leadership for the Analytic Studies Department and analytic support to inform decisions of the CSU leadership, campus Presidents, Board of Trustees, faculty, students, staff, and external audiences. He was previously at CSU Fullerton leading the Office of Institutional Research and Analytical Studies, initially as Director and later as Assistant Vice President.

Sarah Young*

Chief of Staff, Utah State Board of Education
Sarah Young is the Chief of Staff at the Utah State Board of Education (USBE). She leads efforts at USBE to bring next generation learning to Utah’s public schools. Her projects have included the state’s Digital Teaching and Learning initiative and development of Utah’s Portrait of a Graduate. Young ensures these initiatives are centered in creating learning environments that foster 21st century skills for Utah’s students.
