    New York

Setting

The study was conducted in schools located in New York City.

Study sample

The schools included in the study served elementary and middle grades..

Intervention Group

The intervention group consisted of schools whose principals are APP applicants. APP applicants must meet minimum requirements for principal certification, but in general is more selective than the usual principal certification process (about 20% of applicants are accepted). APP uses a specialized curriculum and is accelerated.

Comparison Group

The comparison group consisted of schools without an APP principal; as such principals were traditionally certified.

Support for implementation

The New York City Learning Academy implements the intervention.
