Setting

The study took place in 19 elementary schools across three states: Missouri, Tennessee, and Utah. Schools were located in urban areas and all grades taught in the schools were included in the study.

Study sample

A breakdown of student sample characteristics was not provided in the report.

Intervention Group

The intervention is Classwide function-related intervention teams (CW-FIT). CW-FIT is a multi-tiered classroom management program to help teachers implement evidence-based strategies consistently. The intervention incorporates various PBIS strategies at Tier 1 and Tier 2 to improve classroom management and student behavior during typical academic instruction.

Comparison Group

The comparison group continued business-as-usual instruction.

Support for implementation

Teachers in the intervention group received a 2-hour training session that explained the rationale and logistics of the CW-FIT intervention. Teachers were provided with scripted lessons and coaching during the school year.
