The project team is developing a prototype of an online word recognition assessment program for middle school students who are struggling readers. The assessment will address a variety of literacy skills including decoding, fluency, and word recognition. The product will generate formative assessment profiles of individual students for teachers to provide targeted instruction. In the Phase I pilot research, the team will test the usability of the prototype, the reliability and validity of the diagnostic assessment tool, how teachers are able to use the report to provide targeted instruction, and whether students are engaged with the prototype.
