NCES 2012046 Higher Education: Gaps in Access and Persistence Study
The Higher Education: Gaps in Access and Persistence Study is a congressionally-mandated statistical report that documents the scope and nature of gaps in access and persistence in higher education by sex and race/ethnicity. The report presents 46 indicators grouped under seven main topic areas: (1) demographic context; (2) characteristics of schools; (3) student behaviors and afterschool activities; (4) academic preparation and achievement; (5) college knowledge; (6) postsecondary education; and (7) postsecondary outcomes and employment. In addition, the report contains descriptive multivariate analyses of variables that are associated with male and female postsecondary attendance and attainment.

These Web Tables use data from the 199094, 19962001, and 200409 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Studies (BPS) to display trends in enrollment, progress, and attainment for populations of students who previously have had lower rates of completion. Populations examined include low-income dependent students, students whose parents did not attend college, students with dependents, students who work full time, and Black and Hispanic students.

These Web Tables use data from the 199094, 19962001, and 200409 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Studies (BPS) to display trends in student outcomes for three nationally representative cohorts of students who first enrolled in community colleges (also known as public 2-year institutions). In addition to reporting student goals, tables display outcomes after 5 years for all three cohorts and after 6 years for students who began in 199596 and 200304. Results are shown by selected student demographic characteristics and by student enrollment characteristics.
