Project type:
Phase I Development
Contract number: 91990024C0005

Purpose

Many high school counselors lack the time and information that would be needed to offer individualized guidance for decisions around colleges and careers to students they are assigned to support. In this project, the team will develop a novel prototype app that provides guidance counselors real-time information and resources that they can use to support students in personalized approaches to college and career readiness.

Project Activities

The project team will develop a novel prototype of an app with components including an artificial intelligence engine that generates guidance for individual students based on their backgrounds and future aspirations and a chat box for counselors with step-by-step college and career readiness guidance for individual students. At the end of Phase I, the team will conduct a pilot study with 100 high school students and 3 guidance counselors over 4 weeks. They will examine if the prototype functions as intended, if the student survey captures accurate information on their background and aspirations, if students rate the experience as engaging and indicate that if the prototype helped inform conversations with guidance counselors and friends and family about their future, and if guidance counselors believe the prototype prepared students for conversations and planning about their future.
