Project Activities
In Phase I, the project team will develop a prototype that will be an Artificial Intelligence program that guides students in writing stories to make connections between key mathematical concepts using examples from the real world. At the end of Phase I, a pilot study will engage 10 grade 5 classrooms including the educators and 250 students. Researchers will examine if the prototype functions as intended, if students are able to easily follow the instructions and write a mathematical story, whether the prototype increases students' interest in math and deepens understanding on the topic of fractions.
