Purpose

Longitudinal research can provide valuable insights into change and causal relationships, which are inherently linked to policy and decision making for children and young adults. To draw reliable conclusions with high external validity, education researchers often collect and analyze large-scale longitudinal datasets with complex structures. Amidst various emerging analytical challenges associated with complex longitudinal data, Bayesian methods are demonstrating promise in addressing them. This training program will prepare education researchers to conduct rigorous and robust analyses of longitudinal data using Bayesian modeling. The training is intended for education researchers and graduate students who have some statistical and programming knowledge.

Project Activities

This training team will recruit 3 cohorts of 30 participants (90 participants in total) to engage in a 5-day in-person workshop, monthly follow-up meetings for individual projects, and a presentation to the cohort at the conclusion of the training year. Training will cover a range of Bayesian techniques using large-scale longitudinal datasets through a combination of lectures, hands-on practice activities, and group project work.
