Project director: Deanne Bell
Awardee:
Future Engineers, LLC
Year: 2025

Project type:
Phase I Development
Contract number: 91990025C0086

Purpose

The SBIR Phase I project will develop a STEM education product that empowers K-12 students and educators to conduct field research projects at exciting mission destinations around the globe. The STEM product is intended to help educators prepare a STEM-ready future workforce. Kindergarten thru 12th grade students will learn science concepts and technology skills applicable to real-world scientific investigation by collecting and analyzing data from remote locations beyond the classroom.

Project Activities

In Phase I, a hardware prototype will be designed/developed that engages students with scientific investigation. A suite of education content will also be developed that teaches science principles through hands-on learning activities and interaction with the prototype. To develop the product, Future Engineers will conduct educator discovery sessions and product design reviews in the first half of the R&D effort. At the end of Phase I, researchers will complete two pilot studies. Pilot Study 1, the Mission Test, will evaluate/validate the hardware prototype through a simulated field test scenario. Pilot Study 2, the Educator Study, will use the prototype to evaluate the product’s success potential with regards to education outcome goals, implementation strategy, and business model.
