Purpose

Schools in the U.S. face difficult decisions related to scarce resources for every aspect of schooling including safe facilities, qualified teaching staff, curricula, supplemental support services, and health and wellness staff. Within this context, even modest efficiency gains would be enormously valuable. It is therefore critical for education research to include rigorous economic evaluations to inform decisions about the allocation of resources. This training program will provide education researchers with the skills necessary to integrate economic evaluation into their professional activities related to educational analysis. This training is intended for education researchers who demonstrate an immediate need or deep interest in economic evaluation.

Project Activities

The training team will recruit 4 cohorts of 25 participants (100 participants in total) to engage in a week-long in-person workshop, with a pre-training webinar, and post-course support. Training will cover cost analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, and benefit-cost analysis through a combination of lectures, group discussion, in-class exercises, and individualized supplemental "office hours" opportunities.
