Purpose

The NYU Predoctoral Training Program in Education Sciences prepared fellows to be researchers with strengths in understanding learning in context, using rigorous experimental and quasi-experimental approaches to causal inference, and taking interdisciplinary perspectives on education and learning.

Project Activities

The program provided a quantitative "core curriculum" to ensure fellows were well-trained in sophisticated statistical methods. Fellows also had additional course options and research apprenticeships to develop content expertise in academic achievement, especially in reading and mathematics, the social and behavioral contexts of learning, and/or education policy. Participating NYU faculty and two strategically selected external research partners—MDRC and the Research Partnership for New York City Schools—offered a rich set of research apprenticeships and dissertation project options to the predoctoral fellows.

Key outcomes

Twenty-six fellows received funding support from this award and completed the training program. Several fellows also received funding from award R305B140037.
