Purpose

This postdoctoral fellowship program trained five fellows to conduct research on in measurement tools used to document progress with learning to read and solve mathematics problems in U.S. elementary and middle schools.

Project Activities

Fellows were trained in several aspects of measurement development and research to develop formative measurement systems that are universally designed (accessible to all) and diagnostically sensitive. Three areas were targeted in the training program: fellows learned how to develop progress monitoring as well as benchmarking and large-scale assessments in reading and mathematics; conducted research and training on using data to improve reading and math performance in K-12 school settings; and participated in teaching, research, and service to become the next generation of leaders with expertise in measurement.

Key outcomes

As of 2020, Dr. Jomgochian was the special education program coordinator (K-12) at the University of Oregon, Dr. Lai was a strategic analyst at the Oregon Department of Education, Dr. Mariano is an association profession of psychology at Troy University, , Dr. Nese was a research associate professor in the College of Education at the University of Oregon and Dr. Sáez was a research assistant professor with Behavioral Research and Teaching at the University of Oregon.
