Northwestern University
Year: 2024
Award period: 2 years 11 months (09/01/2024 - 08/31/2027)
Project type:
Training
Award number: R305B240008

Purpose

Well-executed randomized experiments provide the strongest evidence about causal effects of educational interventions, products, and services. Consequently, they have a crucial role to play in establishing a base of knowledge for the improvement and reform of American education. Yet the number of individuals with the knowledge and experience necessary to design, implement, analyze, and interpret randomized field experiments in education that meet SEER standards is still surprisingly small. This program will provide training in the planning, design, execution, and interpretation of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in education consistent with the SEER standards. The training is intended for education researchers with some background in statistics and computing, who are interested in developing skills in randomized trials, and who are employed in a setting that might conduct randomized trials.

Project Activities

The training team will recruit 3 cohorts of 30 participants (90 participants in total) to engage in a 2-week in-person workshop. Training will cover the design, planning, analysis, and interpretation of randomized trials in education through a combination of group instruction and group project work.
