The District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) partnered with REL Mid-Atlantic as it rolled out its expansive multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) frameworkâcalled MTSS@DCPS. Together, we set out to:
1. Establish clear standards for what it means to effectively implement MTSS@DCPS.
2. Identify what conditions at both the school and district levels support effective implementation of the system.
3. Understand data collection needs and aligned tools to ensure schools and students receive appropriate and tailored supports.
4. Develop a communication strategy to promote buy-in among educators and families in using the system.

Completed projects
REL Mid-Atlantic helped DCPS develop fidelity standards to assess the degree to which schools are implementing a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). The coaching project included co-facilitation of conversations with MTSS staff, school level educators, and other community partners; a review of best practices literature on building fidelity standards; a scan of data currently collected through the MTSS system; and recommendations for implementation of the fidelity standards.
Fact sheet: Consistent Implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports
REL Mid-Atlantic helped DCPS improve its MTSS data reporting and dashboards, identify key challenges, and explore feasible solutions to address those challenges.
