The Employability Skills Partnership supports high-quality career pathways for high school students in Indiana. Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Midwest partnered with Indianapolis Public Schools to focus on work-based learning within career and technical education (CTE) programs. REL Midwest supported the district in assessing barriers to student work-based learning participation and creating action plans to strengthen how students and employers prepare to engage in effective work-based learning.
Current projects
REL Midwest is partnering with Indianapolis Public Schools to strengthen career pathways with the goal of increasing the percentage of students engaged in high-quality work-based learning opportunities. Students, families, and the counseling staff who support them need more comprehensive resources to help them make informed decisions about whether a pathway is a good fit for a student. To meet this need, REL Midwest and Indianapolis Public Schools cocreated handouts for each of the district’s 26 career pathways that visualize a student’s expected progression through the pathway, along with relevant postsecondary education and employment options.
