Washington Literacy Partnership

Learn more about our products

Regional Educational Laboratory Northwest supports Washington’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction as it develops and disseminates a statewide framework for K–6 literacy. To achieve this goal, the REL and state partners developed a needs assessment survey regarding evidence-based literacy practices. The data serves as the basis for subsequent work with the literacy framework and professional development and implementation guidance resources that improve adoption of evidence-based literacy practices to improve student achievement outcomes.

In this 2025/26 project, REL Northwest provides technical support and coaching to Washington’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction as the state uses Washington’s K–6 Literacy Framework to create and disseminate professional development resources and tools for educators to implement high-leverage, evidence-based literacy practices. This work is part of the REL Northwest Washington Literacy partnership, which supports implementation of evidence-based elementary literacy teaching and learning practices.

Understanding Existing Data and Conducting a Deeper Needs Assessment in Washington add remove

For the Washington Literacy Partnership, REL Northwest collaborates with the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to understand current literacy practices in the state and identify focal areas for targeted resources and support. In the 2023/24 project, REL Northwest provided technical support to OSPI to analyze responses from the English Language Arts Learning Standards Review Survey, revise the survey to better assess the literacy knowledge and practices of educators statewide, and administer the newly revised needs assessment.
