Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 (ECLS-K) Kindergarten Through Fifth Grade Approaches to Learning and Self-Description Questionnaire (SDQ) Items and Public-Use Data Files

These files include the Approaches to Learning and Self-Description Questionnaire (SDQ) public-use item-level data and questionnaire items from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 (ECLS-K). The Approaches to Learning items were a subset of items from the ECLS-K Social Rating Scale (SRS), which were responded to by teachers in the kindergarten through fifth-grade rounds and parents in the kindergarten and first-grade rounds of the ECLS-K. The Self-Description Questionnaire (SDQ) items were responded to by the study's children in the third- and fifth-grade rounds. The Approaches to Learning data file includes 1) one variable for each of the items that comprise the teacher Approaches to Learning scale and the parent Approaches to Learning scale from the SRS, 2) one variable for each of the Approaches to Learning SRS scale scores, and 3) the unique CHILDID variable from the public-use data file. The SDQ Self-Description Questionnaire data file includes 1) one variable for each of the items that comprise the SDQ scales, 2) one variable for each of the SDQ scale scores, and 3) the unique CHILDID variable from the public-use data file. The CHILDID variable can be used to link each child's Approaches to Learning and SDQ variables to the rest of the child's ECLS-K public-use data.
