Key Statistics on Public Elementary and Secondary Schools and Agencies: School Year 1997-98

This report details information from the Common Core of Data (CCD) school and local education agency surveys for the 1997-98 and 1996-97 school years. These surveys include the universe of about 16,000 school districts and almost 90,000 public schools. Topics include the number, enrollment size and location of schools and school districts; enrollment by grade; the distribution of primary, middle and secondary schools; selected student characteristics; the number of high school completers; numbers of instructional, support and administrative staff; pupil/teacher ratios; and others. Much of the information is broken out by school or district size and urbanicity (e.g., rural, central city). Both national and state data are reported.
