Summary

School enrollment is one measure of the size of the educational system and of the demand for teachers, buildings, and educational resources. Total (public and private) elementary and secondary school enrollment increased during the late 1980s and 1990s. In addition, total public school enrollment is projected to increase in the South and West, but decrease in the Northeast and Midwest between 1998 and 2008.
