Summary

This report presents the results of a special study conducted in 1996 that focused on the science knowledge and skills of twelfth-grade students taking advanced courses in biology, chemistry, or physics during the 1995-1996 school year. It includes information on the science courses students reported taking and their overall performance on the assessment. In addition, the report presents selected questions from the study along with samples of students' responses and question-level results. This is the third in a series of special reports based on science data collected in 1996. The other two reports in the series are "Students Learning Science: A Report on Policies and Practices in U.S. Schools" and "Student Work and Teacher Practices in Science."
