Summary

This report uses data from the Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS), conducted in 1987-88, 1990-91, and 1993-94, and the accompanying Teacher Followup Survey (TFS), conducted a year after each administration of SASS, to describe various aspects of middle schools, examine how they have changed over time, and compare middle schools with elementary and secondary schools. These data provide information on fundamental dimensions of school organization, programs and services, decision making and management, staffing matters, instructional practices, and school climate.
