Summary

The National Adult Literacy Survey, conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), was designed to measure the nature and extent of literacy skills among the adult population, age 16 and older. The “Technical Report and Data File User's Manual For the 1992 National Adult Literacy Survey” provides details on the sample design, weighting, scaling, treatment of missing data, instrument development, data collection, data analysis, and description of various literacy levels for the assessment.
