Summary

Competency-Based Education in Practice

Competency-Based Education (CBE) is part of a broader movement toward learner-centered education that focuses on what students know and can do, rather than how much time they spend in a course or classroom. These infographics are designed to connect key concepts across related educational frameworks and demonstrate how competency-based approaches support meaningful, measurable learning outcomes.

The first infographic explains what Competency-Based Education is and how it aligns with complementary approaches such as standards-based teaching and learning. The second infographic highlights Skills for the Future, a competency-based initiative focused on identifying, measuring, and validating durable and workforce-ready skills for learners. Together, these resources illustrate how competency-based approaches can create a clearer pathway from learning to skill development, helping students demonstrate their readiness for college, careers, and lifelong success.
