Stabilizing School Performance Measures for Accuracy and Equity

REL Mid-Atlantic
Publication date:
May 2023

Summary

School performance measures can be misleading--especially when they involve small numbers of students. While attention to historically underserved student groups has long been a focus of federal accountability under the Every Student Succeeds Act, examining small student groups can be difficult and result in unreliable data. This infographic acknowledges the issue and presents a statistical stabilization technique that states and districts can use to improve the accuracy of their performance data, facilitating informed decision-making and promoting more equitable student outcomes.
