REL Appalachia
Publication date:
March 2024

Summary

The four-part Developing Trauma-Sensitive Classrooms series was designed to help educators understand and implement evidence-based practices to support students and educators experiencing trauma. This introduction provides an overview of the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) program and REL Appalachia team, the Developing Trauma-Sensitive Classrooms training series, and the local and state context establishing the need for a training and coaching series on supporting students and educators experiencing trauma and secondary traumatic stress. The handout includes an annotated list of resources mentioned throughout the series.

The four sessions in the series are:

  1. Understanding trauma and its impacts on schools
  2. Identifying students who need more intensive trauma-sensitive supports
  3. Creating a trauma-sensitive school environment and classroom
  4. Educator self-care

This series was originally developed with and delivered to educators and administrators in Marshall County Schools, Kentucky. These materials were used in the second year of the project.
