Summary

Research suggests that the practicum, or student teaching experience, can impact teachers' early-career effectiveness and retention. Cooperating teachers, who mentor and coach teacher candidates, can shape a positive practicum experience by fostering trust, building teacher candidates' confidence, and developing their teaching skills over time.
