Summary

In this 25-minute public television documentary—produced by Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Midwest with Detroit Public Broadcasting—leaders and teachers from La Mora Park Elementary (Battle Creek Public Schools) share their approach to high-quality literacy instruction. The program also highlights efforts in Benton Harbor Area Schools and Fruitport Community Schools to create classroom libraries that spark excitement for reading. The documentary features expert remarks from Dr. Rané Garcia (Michigan Department of Education) and Maggie Trout (REL Midwest). 

 

Additionally, REL Midwest has created a viewing guide for the documentary to give the viewer an opportunity to reflect and consider their takeaways from the video on instructional strategies and supports to improve student literacy achievement.
