This Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Midwest video focuses on best practices for creating and implementing Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans (RIMPs) to support students in kindergarten through grade 3 in Ohio Public Schools. Hear from a teacher, a school leader, and a state leader on how RIMPs connect evidence-based interventions and instructional support to improve the intervention, monitoring, and promotion of early literacy. LM Clinton, program administrator at the Ohio Department of Education, and Melissa Spangler, a reading intervention specialist at Rocky River City Schools, describe the components of reading and improvement plans and the importance of using evidence-based interventions. Dr. Jill Bowdon, senior researcher with REL Midwest, also discusses the effectiveness of RIMPs and how plans can be implemented to support the school-family connection. Last, Jana Wolfe, executive director of teaching and learning for Mt. Healthy City Schools, discusses the importance of reading and improvement plans in closing the achievement gap for students.
