REL Southeast event: Reading Instruction Aligned with Research and the Common Core State Standards

Location: Charleston Marriott, 170 Lockwood Blvd, Charleston, SC 29403

Description: The goals for the Bridge Event are to: 1) review research on reading instruction in grades K–3 and 4–8; 2) describe the alignment of reading research to the Common Core State Standards, 3) demonstrate research-based practices to teach reading in grades K–3 and 4–8, 4) provide opportunities for participants to practice reading instructional strategies with guidance from experts, and 5) provide participants with an opportunity to identify additional activities needed for the successful implementation of research-based reading practices in their district/school.

Audience: The primary audience will be district/school staff in South Carolina with responsibility for teaching reading to students in grades K–3 and 4–8. Teachers of English language arts and reading as well as reading coaches, reading specialists, and supervisors of reading are encouraged to attend.
Anticipated number of attendees: 100
