REL Southwest Event: Exploring data visualization

Description: This training session is the first in a series three sessions aimed at guiding staff at the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) in designing engaging data visualization for a variety of stakeholders. During this first session, REL researchers will present best practices for effective data visualization and engage participants in activities to illustrate these practices.

Goals for the training series include:

  1. Provide an overview of the principles and practice of data visualization.
  2. Provide participants with an opportunity to apply those principles to ADE data for three targeted initiatives in the state: Equity Labs, My School Info data display platform, Reading Initiative for Student Excellence (RISE Arkansas).
  3. Identify plans and next steps for ADE’s data visualization support and practice.

Research Alliance: Southwest College and Career Readiness (SWCCR) Research Partnership

Audience: The primary audience for this project are staff working in multiple departments of ADE, such as: Learning Services; Public School Accountability (School Performance, Standards and System Support, and Family/Community Engagement); Educator Effectiveness; and Research and Technology.
