Description: REL Mid-Atlantic, in response to local educators’ interest in ways to assess and increase student engagement in their school activities after the shutdowns, will lead a presentation and discussion of a simple student survey that shows students' sense of empowerment in their learning (which underlies engagement). The survey yields three scores validated in the research: the degree to which students feel the content is relevant, the degree to which they feel competent in that subject matter, and the degree to which they feel they can influence their classroom experiences. In addition to a description of the 20-minute, free survey participants will examine sample scores and how to interpret them. A description of the use of the survey in West Virginia will illustrate the survey’s use.
