Time: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Eastern

Location: Education Development Center, Inc.
43 Foundry Ave

Description: This event will provide an overview of the status of research on teacher preparation, with a specific focus on research related to equity and diversity. Dr. Marilyn Cochran-Smith, Cawthorne Professor of Teacher Education for Urban Schools at Boston College, will discuss three broad bodies of research in teacher preparation—accountability, effectiveness, and policies; teacher preparation for the knowledge society; and teacher preparation for diversity and equity—and some of the key findings within each line of research. She will also describe a conceptual framework she has developed for “putting equity at the center” of teacher preparation.

The event will include a panel of practitioners representing state education agencies, higher education, and alternative preparation, who will discuss their efforts to promote equity in teacher preparation and their current research needs. Attendees will be invited to participate in state-based breakout sessions focused on issues related to equity and diversity in teacher preparation.
