Time: 12:00–1:30 PM (HST), 5:00–6:30 PM (EDT)
Location: Webinar
Description: This webinar will provide participants with information on teaching academic content and literacy to English learners at the elementary school level, presenting recommendations from a What Works Clearinghouse practice guide, Teaching Academic Content and Literacy to English Learners in Elementary and Middle School. Participants will hear from guide co-author Dr. Joseph Dimino, a national expert on early literacy, and REL Pacific Research Associate Erin D’Amelio, to learn how these recommendations can be applied within a Pacific context. The webinar will also help to orient audience members on REL Pacific’s burgeoning Partnerships for the Improvement of Early Literacy.
Audience: The intended audience for this webinar includes teachers, school-level administrators, and local and state education agency (LEA and SEA) staff across the Pacific region. Based on the interest and participation in our October 2016 Bridge event on the Foundational Skills guide, we anticipate that this webinar will draw considerable interest across the Pacific region and within the continental U.S. due to the dual focus on improving early reading proficiency and supporting English language students, which are challenges both regionally and nationally.
Speakers: Dr. Joseph Dimino, senior research associate, Instructional Research Group.
