Sign up now for advanced studies seminars on the use of NCES databases for education research. Seminars are held in the Washington metropolitan area, and costs are covered by NCES.
NAEP database
Register by May 8. This 3 1/2-day seminar is on the main NAEP database, which contains nationally representative achievement scores on 4th, 8th, and 12th graders from public and non-public schools in a variety of academic subjects.
Seminar date: June 20-23.
NHES database
Register by May 30. This 3-day seminar on the use of the National Household Education Surveys Program (NHES) database, which provides descriptive data on the educational activities of the U.S. population, from early childhood to adult education, and offers policymakers, researchers, and educators a variety of statistics on the condition of education in the United States.
Seminar date: July 12–14
NELS:88 and ELS:2002 databases
Register by June 5. This 21/2-day seminar focuses on the use of longitudinal education databases, specifically the National Education Longitudinal Study of 1988 (NELS:88) and the Education Longitudinal Study of 2002 (ELS:2002). The design of both studies permits the examination of education, work, and the socialization of American youth and the influence of schools, teachers, community and family in promoting growth and positive outcomes.
Seminar date: July 19–21.
Join us, and hundreds of other information system managers and other data professionals at the annual forum and data conference on July 24–28 in Washington, DC. Activities will include:
- training for Common Core of Data Coordinators (CCD);
- a two-day track of presentations by national experts in school finance;
- up-to-the-minute information about NCES survey and assessment programs;
- discussion on how states and districts are responding to the accountability needs of No Child Left Behind; and
- overviews of state projects in information technology.
