Digest of Education Statistics 2011 Set to be Released on June 13
If you are looking for a comprehensive compilation of statistical data covering the broad field of American education from pre-kindergarten through graduate school, then you may be interested in the soon-to-be released Digest of Education Statistics. The Digest, to be released by the National Center for Education Statistics on June 13, is the 47th in the series of publications initiated in 1962. This 47th edition contains new material such as average daily attendance, teacher's working time and average class sizes in public elementary and secondary schools, and employment rates of 25-to 64-year olds.

Feasibility Study on Condition of School Facilities
The National Center for Education Statistics is currently conducting the first round of feasibility tests for a Fast Response Survey on the condition of public schools facilities. This survey is expected to report First Look results to Congress by December 2013. The survey questionnaire is based on items from a 1999 NCES facilities survey (FRSS 73) with substantial revisions to improve item reliability and overall response rates. NCES Wins Top Honors for Plain Language With NAEP Tools on the Web Brochure
The National Center for Education Statistics' (NCES) NAEP Tools on the Web brochure was recently awarded the Center for Plain Language's top national award for most user-friendly release. The award, called the Grand ClearMark, was given for this brochure that was designed to help parents, teachers, journalists, policymakers, researchers, and others interested in education easily understand the relevance of the educational statistics.
"We are thrilled that NCES was recognized for our continued efforts to improve the way we communicate with the general public," said NCES Commissioner Jack Buckley. "Statistical reports and data collections can be difficult to explain without resorting to overly technical language and we are committed to making our reports and data timely, factual, and still understandable."
The brochure was developed by Hager Sharp under a contract with the National Center for Education Statistics.
Common Education Data Standards Wins PESC Best Practices Award
NCES's Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) wins the 2011 Annual Best Practices Competition of the Postsecondary Electronic Standards Council (PESC). The Best Practices Competition is held each year by PESC to promote innovation and ingenuity in the application of standards for business needs.
Condition of Education 2012 Released
The National Center for Education Statistics has released the Condition of Education 2012. It summarizes important developments and trends in education using the latest available data. The 2012 report presents 49 indicators on the status and condition of education grouped under three main categories: participation in education; elementary and secondary education; and postsecondary education. The report also provides a closer look at high schools in the United States over the past 20 years.
