November 18, 2015

Time: 3:00p.m.- 4:00p.m. CT

Location: Virtual

Description: This event will explore the teaching standards established by the Council of Chief State School Officers’ Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) and the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL). In the absence of rigorous research about online teacher professional development, these standards taken together provide information about what is recommended for high quality instruction and can be used to inform the content of professional development for online teachers. The presenters, Cindy Hamblin, Ronda Eshleman and Michele Nickels, are from three state-level online learning programs operating in the Midwest and will describe how their programs utilize the above standards to create teacher training programs across their service areas and the challenges and successes related to those experiences. Additionally, Mary Herring, a VERA member representing a teacher preparation program, will address how the online professional development practices of the state-level programs can inform the preparation of preservice teachers to teach online.
