October 19, 2016

Time: 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Location: Webinar

Description: The use of student learning objectives (SLOs) as one measure of educator effectiveness has become increasingly widespread. With changes in evaluation requirements under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), however, many states and districts are reviewing the role of SLOs in evaluating educators. This free webinar examines SLOs from national, state, and district perspectives to discuss benefits, lessons learned, and next steps.

Research Alliance: Educator Effectiveness

Audience: The primary audience for this event is both SEA and LEA staff who are connected with policy and practice around educator evaluation. Directors of educator quality and evaluation at the state and district levels would benefit from the content and experiences shared during the event. Similarly, members of state-wide teacher groups such as the state teacher’s associations who have influence on the training and support of teachers who might be required to write SLOs as a part of their evaluation would also benefit from this event.

Speakers:

  1. Kris Joannes, Director, Office of Educator Effectiveness, South Carolina Department of Education
  2. Joann Taylor, Director of Educator Effectiveness, Austin Independent School District
  3. Lisa Lachlan-Haché, Principal Researcher, The Center on Great Teachers and Leaders, American Institutes for Research (AIR)
  4. Douglas Fireside, Educator Effectiveness Research Alliance Liaison, REL Southwest, American Institutes for Research (AIR)
