WWC released reviews of 6 studies that earned evidence tiers
In May, the WWC released reviews of six studies that meet WWC standards with or without reservations and reported positive effects on one or more outcome domains, meaning that they were well-designed studies that provide evidence that the interventions improved outcomes.
Strong evidence (Tier 1)
Studies of BookNook and Air Reading found positive effects on literacy achievement outcomes.
Promising evidence (Tier 3)
A study of problem based learning found positive effects on cognitive outcomes.
A study of supplemental phonics instruction found positive effects on phonics and related alphabetics outcomes.
A study of Quick Reads found positive effects on reading comprehension outcomes.
A study of nonmonetary incentives for tutoring attendance found positive effects on participation in educational opportunities outcomes.
The WWC also reviewed 27 studies that found uncertain effects or did not meet WWC standards.
