WWC released reviews of 10 studies

In March, the WWC released reviews of ten studies that meet WWC standards with or without reservations and reported positive effects, meaning that they were well-designed studies that provide evidence that the interventions improved outcomes.

Strong evidence (Tier 1)

A study of multiple literacies in project-based learning found positive effects on general science achievement and intrapersonal competencies outcomes.

A study of attendance mailings found positive effects on school attendance outcomes.

Moderate evidence (Tier 2)

A study of the Chicago School Readiness Project found positive effects on cognition, mathematics achievement, mental health, proficiency in the English language, student behavior, and teacher practice outcomes.

A study of a robotics summer learning program found positive effects on school attendance outcomes.

Promising evidence (Tier 3)

A study of Bridging English Language Learning and Academies found positive effects on literacy achievement and teacher practice outcomes.

A study of the SPARK literacy program found positive effects on literacy achievement outcomes.

A study of Enhanced Milieu Teaching found positive effects on proficiency in the English language outcomes.

A study of the ROOTS program found positive effects on numbers and operations outcomes.

A study of Primary Project found positive effects on school attendance outcomes.

A study of content acquisition podcasts for teachers found positive effects on teacher practice outcomes.

The WWC also reviewed 55 studies that found uncertain effects or did not meet WWC standards.

In February, the WWC released reviews of 7 studies that meet WWC standards with or without reservations and reported positive effects, meaning that they were well-designed studies that provide evidence that the interventions improved outcomes.

Strong evidence (Tier 1)

A study of Adventures Aboard the S.S. GRIN found positive effects on prosocial behavior and student behavior outcomes.

Promising evidence (Tier 3)

An IES-funded study of Montessori preschool found positive effects on cognitive and phonics outcomes.

A study of Super Solvers found positive effects on numbers and operations outcomes. A study of another fractions intervention, fraction sense, found positive effects on geometry and measurement outcomes.

Studies of (1) First Step Next and homeBase, (2) Disc ‘O’ Sit cushion, and (3) daily report cards found positive effects on student behavior outcomes.

The WWC also reviewed 34 studies that found uncertain effects or did not meet WWC standards.

Updated Study Review Protocol and new study reviews available

The WWC released an updated Study Review Protocol, Version 5.1, to introduce two changes to the study review process to increase efficiency. Additionally, the WWC has completed 271 new study reviews since October. >> More info
