On February 6, the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) delivered a webinar on the new topic area focused on the effectiveness of charter schools. This webinar was intended to help policymakers, funders, and educators understand the impetus for the new Charter Schools topic area, how we select interventions for review, and the findings from the first three intervention reports, which focused on three charter school networks: Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP), Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) Promise Academy Charter Schools, and Green Dot Pubic Schools. For each intervention report, the WWC review team reviewed available studies measuring the effect of a set of charter schools organized in a network and using a similar educational approach. The webinar also discusses the Charter Schools review protocol that was used to guide study reviews, including the topic area’s research questions, key definitions, eligible populations, and eligible outcomes.
