Description: This series of in-depth workshops will address two overall goals identified by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE): (1) improving educators’ abilities to identify sources of learning challenges faced by English learner students (ELs) and (2) improving educators’ collaboration and skills in implementing effective Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) with ELs in Connecticut.

The project objectives are:

• To enhance educators’ identification and use of appropriate data sources for distinguishing between language-based versus other learning challenges for ELs.
• To improve educators’ effective implementation of SRBI adapted for ELs, based on identification of the sources of students’ challenges.
• To increase educators’ capacity for developing individualized education programs (IEPs) that support the needs of ELs dually identified as also in need of special education services, based on a review of the data.

Partnership or Research Alliance: Connecticut English Learner Research Partnership

Audience: The audience consists of educator teams from five districts identified and invited by CSDE to attend the series of workshops.
