Examining the Nation’s Report Card: An Educator’s Guide to 2022 Reading and Math Scores in the U.S. and the Four REL Appalachia States

This fact sheet presents 2019 and 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) reading and math results from a representative sample of public schools across the country, including all students in grades 4 and 8, as well as for Black, Hispanic, White, multilingual learner students, and students eligible for the National School Lunch Program. Additionally, the factsheet includes the same metrics at the state-level for the four states served by REL Appalachia: Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Educators can use the factsheet to understand the national and regional picture of literacy and numeracy proficiency and connect to resources from the REL program to support learners.
