Massachusetts Partnership to Support Student Learning through Math Intervention

Through this partnership, district leaders are seeking ways to bolster students’ mathematics learning by providing intervention in addition to core instruction.Specifically, the partnership will focus efforts on students with mathematics difficulties or identified disabilities who are receiving math intervention in grades 3–6. The goals of the partnership activities include increasing teachers’ self-efficacy with and use of evidence-based practices and increasing students’ attitudes and self-efficacy for learning mathematics as well as increasing students’ ability to use specific focus strategies and knowledge of mathematics topics.

In this partnership, REL Northeast & Islands will develop a toolkit to support math intervention teachers and math leaders in implementing the evidence-based practices recommended in the WWC Practice Guide, Assisting Students Struggling with Mathematics: Intervention in the Elementary Grades. REL Northeast & Islands will also conduct an applied research study to evaluate the impact of the toolkit on teacher practice and student learning. In addition, REL Northeast & Islands and its partners will co-develop a dissemination plan to spread awareness and deepen understanding about, support access to, and facilitate sharing of partnership study findings, implications, and toolkit resources, using strategies such as webinars, factsheets, infographics, stakeholder briefings, and videos.

Partner Organizations: Boston Public Schools, Cambridge Public Schools
