Florida Panhandle K-5 Literacy Partnership

The REL Southeast Florida Panhandle K-5 Literacy Partnership is a collaborative group of literacy educators from 14 small and rural school districts across the region and the organization that supports them, the larger central school district within the region, and the Florida Department of Education. The partnership is focused on increasing knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practices in literacy at elementary schools across the area.

Partner Organization(s): Select district leaders from the Panhandle Area Educational Consortium's (PAEC) 14 member districts: Calhoun County, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Developmental Research School, Franklin County, Gadsden County, Gulf County, Holmes County, Jackson County, Jefferson County, Liberty County, Madison County, Taylor County, Wakulla County, Walton County, Washington County, as well as Leon County Schools, leadership at PAEC, and State Regional Literacy Directors from the Florida Department of Education


This project will offer three academy strands to provide evidence-based literacy practices for literacy educators in Florida Panhandle elementary schools. The first strand will focus on improving implementation of third grade summer reading camps through training on the use of the Summer Reading Camp Self-study Guide for first district literacy leaders and then school-based teams. The second strand will focus on providing training on evidence-based practices for content area literacy instruction for teachers in grades 4 and 5. The final strand will provide training sessions on how to implement differentiated Tier 1 literacy instruction in grades K-5.
