Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Alliance for the Improvement of Early Literacy
Focusing on early literacy is a priority in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) where many grade 3 students are not reading proficiently, at a time when they should be transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn. Our partners in the CNMI are committed to using research results, data, and best practices to guide policy and practice to influence reading outcomes, particularly in multilingual cultures.
Goals
- Supplement the CNMI Public School System's (PSS) current efforts to build supports for reading transitions from the home to early elementary so that more students are proficient readers grade 3.

Training, Coaching & Technical Support (TCTS) in Progress
REL Pacific is working closely with stakeholders in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) to help local educators build their knowledge of evidence-based malleable factors that lead to increased reading proficiency by grade 3.
