Providing Coaching to the Alabama State Department of Education on instrumentation for the evaluation of the AMSTI program in mathematics

REL Southeast is assisting the Alabama State Department of Education and the University of Northern Alabama as they develop formative and summative measures to evaluate a newly developed professional development (PD) model (summer institutes and professional learning communities) aimed at content deepening (Number and Mathematical Operations), examining student tasks, analyzing of student work, and determining next instructional steps.

Outcomes associated with this project include:

  • Formative assessments (e.g. fidelity of implementation tools; observation tools for the institute and PLC settings) are developed for programmatic evaluation to be used internally to improve and revise the professional development model;
  • A clear plan is developed for examining data that would inform external stakeholders on the effectiveness of the professional learning
